Mad honey intoxication is a clinical syndrome arising from the consumption of grayanotoxin-containing honey produced by bees from the nectar of Rhododendron species, characterized by bradycardia, hypotension, and syncope. Although primarily endemic to the Black Sea region of Turkey, cases have been reported worldwide, including Nepal, Korea, Japan, Austria, and Germany. We present a 65-year-old male patient with known hypertension on ramipril and amlodipine who was admitted to the emergency department following syncope while walking. On admission, the Glasgow Coma Scale score was 15, blood pressure was 74/35 mmHg, heart rate was 45 beats/min, and electrocardiography revealed sinus bradycardia. Abdominal examination was unremarkable except for suprapubic tenderness, with no guarding or rebound.

Huntington’s disease (HD) is the most common inherited neurodegenerative disorder, clinically characterized by a triad of abnormalities: uncontrollable hyperkinesia (chorea), progressive cognitive decline, and emotional disturbances. The molecular basis for its pathogenesis is a mutation in the HTT gene, resulting in an abnormal expansion of the polyglutamine (polyQ) tract within the huntingtin (Htt) protein. This mutation imparts one or more toxic functions to the mutant Htt, which initiate a cascade of pathological processes culminating in selective neurodegeneration.

Biochemical changes in muscle tissue during compression trauma induced by hemostatic tourniquet application

The study of biochemical processes in muscle tissue during traumatic injuries and compression is of key importance for clinical, particularly surgical, practice. One common but insufficiently studied type of impact is the application of a hemostatic tourniquet — a method of temporary bleeding control widely used in military field surgery and continuing to be employed in modern operative surgery. Despite the regulated time limits (no more than 2–2.5 hours), in real-world conditions, especially wartime, these restrictions are often violated, leading to profound pathological changes in tissues. This review, based on experimental data, analyzes the nature and extent of biochemical shifts in muscles depending on the duration of tourniquet compression and traces the features of the recovery period after its removal.
